Air Source Heat Pumps

Why install an Air Source Heat Pump?

There are two main reasons and benefits... reduce the carbon emission generated to heat your home (your carbon footprint) and reduce your heating / fuel bills.

What is an Air Source Heat Pump?

An Air Source Heat Pump extracts heat from the air that is then put into your heating system to heat your home (or office).Air replaces gas or oil as the fuel and is of course free!

Air Source Heat Pumps can extract heat from the air when temperatures are as low as -15C.

How does an Air Source Heat Pump Work?

Air is drawn into the Air Source Heat Pump through a fan and sent to a Compressor as a liquid. The Compressor further increases the temperature of the heat in this liquid before the heat is extracted and used to heat the water in your heating system, which in turn provides heat to your house through your radiators.

This type of Air Source Heat Pump is an ‘air to water’ system, and is typically the most common used. An alternative is an ‘air to air’ system that will require heated air to be circulated around your home (or office).

We install market leading Mitsubishi Ecodan heat pumps.

A Mitsubishi Ecodan heat pump converts 1kW of electricity into 3.2kW of useful heat for the home, maximising efficiency all year round. Even on the coldest days, Ecodan harvests renewable heat energy from the outside air and transfers it inside the home to heat radiators and provide hot water.

Traditional oil-fired boiler systems work by producing on-off bursts of heat to maintain the desired room temperature. Ecodan works much more efficiently by supplying hot water to the radiators at a lower, yet more constant temperature, giving you a more controlled level of warmth plus all the hot water you need.

Ecodan is designed to work at optimum efficiency whatever the weather and to work efficiently with outside temperatures as low as -20°C.

What are the potential savings of installing an Air Source Heat Pump?

There are two distinct areas you will save by installing an Air Source Heat Pump.

Firstly, the cost to heat your home (or office) will reduce as the fuel (air) you are using is free. You will no longer be paying for Gas or Oil

Secondly, the amount of carbon emissions you create over a traditional heating system will reduce significantly. Air Source Heat Pumps are part of the Government's strategy (for residential and commercial heating) to reduce the CO2 emissions of the country.

Can I heat my home as well as provide hot water?

Yes you can.

An Air Source Heat Pump can be installed in order to provide both the heat in your radiators to heat your home, as well as heating the hot water in your immersion tank.

However, your Air Source Heat Pump will not run as efficiently as it can if it is heating your hot water, so an alternative solution could be to use Solar PV panels to heat the hot water. Green Energy Systems can install both technologies to work together, please Contact Us about your bespoke Energy Efficient System.

What is involved with installing an Air Source Heat Pump?

There are a number of factors involved in the installation of an Air Source Heat Pump. Understanding the building, existing insulation and how you use heat in your home will enable us to correctly specify the right heat pump for your needs. Ensuring it is located correctly will enable it to perform as efficiently as possible.

Plant Room Installation?

As well as the space you will save within your home by not having a Gas Boiler, as the Air Source Heat Pump will be outside, it is also possible to move your Hot Water Tank etc outside too. We can provide a bespoke Plant Room to contain everything needed for your heating system. As well as tailoring the Plant Room to your needs, we can also Project Manage the whole job for you, including making good the areas within your house that the Gas Boiler & Hot Water Tank have been removed from.

Are there any financial incentives available?

Yes there are!
Currently there is a Government Green Homes Grant available to help towards the cost of Energy Efficient Improvements to your home.
There is also the Governments Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme once your that will provide you with payments once an Energy Efficient System has been installed.
Green Energy Systems are happy to talk to you about these Government financial incentives and how you can benefit from them to reduce the cost of installing Energy Efficient Improvements to your home.
